Good/Bad Website Smackdown

For this week’s Smackdown, I reviewed the websites of two up-and-coming actresses in the new hit film Terrifier 2. The first actress, Lauren LaVera, who plays the main protagonist in the film, has what I’d describe as a good website. I found her site to be very clean and to-the-point, including only the most important information about herself and her work experience. The pastel pink and soft text is easy on the eyes and makes for a pleasant read overall. I think she did a nice job with each section of the site, making them unique in their own way while also conforming to the established aesthetic. The only thing I mentioned in my video that I wasn’t sure about was the subscribe feature at the bottom of the page, though as I’m not someone currently working in the industry and hiring talent, I can’t necessarily speak on its relevance. It may very well be there for reasons I’m simply not aware of. Nevertheless, I think Lauren’s site is very well-done. Incidentally, it was created using WIX, which is the same web tool I spoke on during my last Smackdown.

The other actress’ website, while not terrible, isn’t particularly great either. The actress in question is Casey Hartnett, who if you’ve seen the film, plays Allie, and does not deserve to get dragged anymore than she’s already been. Jokes aside, her website mainly lacks cohesion and a uniform aesthetic. You have choppy walls of text and a lot of information condensed which just overwhelms the eyes. The color of yellow she chose for some of the backdrops and text doesn’t help with legibility either. Furthermore, the placement of her various elements like the website title/subtitle, navigation bar, and various videos/pictures is clunky at best. There is no sense of alignment or direction to these elements and as such the website comes across as lacking focus. She — or the creator — also used WIX for the site and so I think if they went back in and made some changes they could greatly improve upon it. Thanks for taking the time to read my summary and be sure to leave your thoughts on Terrifier 2 below!
